Can students from other SUNY campuses use our library?

Short answer: YES!

Longer answer: students from other SUNY campuses can borrow materials from the SUNY Broome library with their student IDs.  They must present a valid student ID from the campus they attend.  If they want to use a computer, they will need to be logged in as a guest user using one of the LibRef accounts (which they can check out, similar to the community users).

How to locate accounts from other SUNY schools:

  1. On the "Patron Identification" page (Fulfillment menu → Manage Patron Services), click the box next to "Find user in other institution."
  2. Select their home campus from the drop-down menu that will appear.
  3. Scan their ID.
  4. When their patron record appears, verify that the name and contact information is correct.  If you need to make any changes, you can do so here - it will not change their information at their home institution.
  5. Click the "Update User" button on the right side of the screen.  This will create the patron as an "Open SUNY" temporary borrower* type in our Alma instance, and give them borrowing privileges.
  6. You can then scan items for checkout as you would with any other patron.

*Temporary borrower records are automatically deleted from the system when the items borrowed are returned.
