Access Services

A centralized repository of procedures and instructions for workers at the circulation desk.

Check Out Basics

Our library system, Alma, has 2 basic pieces that work together:  patron records and item records.

In order to check something out, the person who wants it must have a patron record.  (For more information about patron records - Patron Records.) And the thing they want needs to have an item record.  Item records are created when materials are received, or alternatively, by the Access Services Librarian.

The basic checkout workflow is as follows:

  1. Open Alma.
  2. Locate "Manage Patron Services", either from the "Recent Pages" bar or the Fulfillment menu.
  3. Scan the patron's barcode (you can also locate their patron record by last name or B number).
  4. Scan the item.
  5. And you're done!

The rest of this page will have some screenshots and more detailed information, including some of the rare but weird things that might arise.
