What's That Sound?!?

What To Do

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Employees can facilitate a safe and speedy evacuation by holding all doors open, directing people, and keeping calm.  If you have been assigned a post (see detailed instructions below), please go there immediately.
  • Employees SHOULD NOT EXIT until all students are out of the facility, unless your assigned post is outside the building.

Once the alarms sound:

  1. Library staff will notify all patrons to exit the building immediately.
    1. Student employees are to leave as well - student ambassadors and peer tutors are NOT responsible for evacuating patrons.
  2. Library staff posts - daytime:
    1. Front Sidewalk (across "bridge"): Mornings --  circulation clerk (and student workers)
Afternoons -- circulation clerk (and student workers)
    2. Front Stairwell Emergency Doors: access services librarian (E. Wilburn)
    3. Front Exterior Exit Doors: reference librarians (P. Bond, D. Curtin)
    4. Back Emergency Doors: resource sharing librarian (S. Trencansky)
    5. Clear Reference Area and Computers: electronic resources librarian (N. Roth)
    6. Clear Gallery and Mini-Lab/Classroom Computers: senior account clerk (C. Micholychak)
    7. Second Floor & Final First Floor Sweep: library director (R. Petrus)
  3. Library staff posts -- evening/weekend:
    1. Clear Reference Area and Second Floor: librarian (B. Van Tol)
    2. Clear Gallery and Mini-Lab/Classroom Computers: circulation clerk(s) (M. Kinne, A. Kerila, D. Swift)
  4. Library staff holding front exit doors will inform patrons attempting to enter the building that the library is closed due to an emergency.
  5. Patrons exiting the front of the Library should be directed to walk over the Library "bridge" and across the sidewalk to allow emergency vehicles to park near the Library building.
  6. Patrons exiting the building at the back/lower level exit should assemble in the parking lot, leaving TWO parking lanes between their group and the building for emergency vehicle access.
  7. Once the Library is cleared, all staff members are to leave the building (if they have not already) and wait for campus security/BCC administration to give further instructions.

Goals!
