The Library at SUNY Broome Community College draws on the Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education established by the Association of College and Research Libraries. The new Framework is based on a cluster of interconnected core concepts:
The overall goal is to support the college curriculum and to encourage lifelong learning in our students, so that they can:
Information literacy skills will help students succeed at SUNY Broome, and wherever their journeys take them afterwards.
We can build resources guides for your course or for course assignments. Some examples can be seen here: sunybroome.libguides.com/. We will consult with you on guide structure and content. You can link to guides in Blackboard, so that library resources and librarian contact information can be available to your students at a point of need.
The SUNY Broome Library has adapted its instruction program to protect the health and safety of faculty, staff and students during the pandemic. While we love to have students filling our building and using our resources, and we love to be able to help them in person, we can’t do that at this time in a safe manner. Instead, we are offering library instruction online. We will work with you to determine the best ways to meet the needs of your students.
To Schedule Library Instruction
Please let us know at least two weeks ahead of time for scheduling and preparation.
Blackboard Collaborate
You can bring a librarian into a Blackboard Collaborate session to work with your students. Blackboard blocks guest access by default for security purposes, so it needs to be turned on. In the Course Room, click the checkbox for Guest access. Once that is done, you will see a Guest role and a Guest link. You can leave the Guest role as Participant. Copy the Guest link URL and email it to the librarian working with your class.
Embedding a librarian
We can work with your classes online in Blackboard. We will discuss the objectives with you, and develop a plan which we will review with you. Then we can schedule a week in which we will join your class and work with your students.
To add a librarian to your Blackboard course as an instructional partner, use the Enroll Users function and add your librarian with the role of Librarian, as shown in the image below.
This role will allow the librarian to add content to your course and participate in discussion forums.
Zoom co-host
You can bring a librarian into a Zoom class as well. In order to enable screen-sharing, you will need to make the librarian a co-host. Here are the Zoom support directions:
