Primo, the Library's discovery tool, searches most of the Library's databases at once. Here you will find materials the SUNY Broome Library owns and/or has access to, as well as what other libraries have. The latter can be requested through interlibrary loan (ILLiad).
You can access Primo from the Library's home page.
The following example shows you how to search Primo for articles (including peer-reviewed) and ebooks/books. Examples are also given for how to access these different types of resources.
Starting from the Library's home page:
- go to the Advanced Search
- search for "Almost Everything"
- enter your terms in the search boxes
- use quotations around phrases; single word terms do not need quotations around them
- databases usually retrieve results that include the plurals of search terms
- capitalize operators between terms and phrases: AND (narrows search), OR (broadens search)
- use the * (asterisk) to get various endings of words, e.g., occupation* retrieves occupation, occupations, occupational
- some suggestions for terms and phrases:
- "vocational guidance", occupation, "job hunting", "job satisfaction"
- on the results page refine your search
- select publication dates, and other options as you choose, e.g., available online, peer-reviewed journals, articles, books
