How to Link to Library Resources

Why link to an ebook?

There are a few different ways you can use ebooks in your course: 

  • Use an ebook as your textbook. Important: If you'd like to do this, email your librarian! When we purchase ebooks, generally we choose a license that allows only one person to access the ebook at a time. We may be able to change that if you want to use the book as the text for your class.
  • Use ebook chapters as course readings. (The same caveat about contacting your librarian applies.)
  • Suggest ebooks for supplementary readings (that may be useful to someone's research paper, etc.)

How do I find ebooks? Do they have "persistent links" like articles?

Finding ebooks

Either go to the library homepage and select the Books and Media tab and click the search for ebooks link OR 

Use the search box below to find ebooks - just enter a search term, and the results will be limited to ebooks only.

Finding ebook links

Just like we have multiple database vendors, we also have ebook vendors. Here are instructions on how to link to the most common ones.

If you don't see the one you're looking for, let us know and we'll add instructions!

 

After you click Available Online, if you see the ProQuest Ebook Central header, you can just copy the URL from your browser's address bar.

Linking directly to a page/chapter:

If you want to get a link directly to a page or chapter of the text, navigate to the desired page/chapter and then click on the paperclip icon to generate a permalink to that page/chapter.  

 

To find the persistent link:

  1. Click on the share arrow on the right hand side of the screen
  2. Select 'Create Link'
  3. Copy link

To share a direct link to a page/chapter, navigate to the desired page/chapter:

  1. Click on the share arrow on the right hand side of the screen
  2. Select 'Create Link'
  3. Copy link

How do I add ebook links to Brightspace?

  1. Once you've copied your link, head to Brightspace.
  2. Navigate to the module you'd like to add the link to. Click Upload / Create, then Create a Link

     3. Enter the book title in the Title field, and paste the ebook URL in the URL field.

     4. Click Create - you're done!
