How To Request A Scan Of Library Materials

A PDF file will be sent to your email!

Scanning Policies

What can be requested?

  • Book chapters or pages from a book. Please limit to one chapter per request.
  • Books published before 1923 may exceed chapter or page restrictions but must still adhere to the limits below.

Restrictions:

  • A PDF scan of the chapter will be sent to your email.  The library CAN NOT print out chapter scans.
  • One book chapter for each request.
  • Three chapters from books within the public domain (published prior to 1923).
  • No rush processing. All requests will take 1-3 business days to complete.
  • Entire book requests that are sent chapter by chapter through the request forms are a violation of copyright laws and will be canceled.
  • This service is not a replacement for purchasing required course textbooks. We cannot guarantee that textbook will be available for scanning services.

Request Limits:

  • No more than 5 requests will be processed for SUNY Broome Library patrons in one day.
  • All requests must abide by copyright law:

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “Fair Use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
